They are Iranian people speaking various dialects of the Persian-Tajik continuum and populating the regions to the east and northeast of the modern Iran, located in the modern Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Pakistan. The traditional area where Tajiks live includes the basin of the top reaches of Amu Darya (Panj), Murghab and Kabul, the Zeravshan valley, the basins of the river Zeravshan as well as the basins of Helmand and Arghandab.
Language
In Tajikistan (and other countries of Central Asia) and Afghanistan (together with Pakistan) two different form of the Tajik literary language are accepted: the Tajik language and the Dari.
Food
The Tajik national cuisine is very diverse, including dozens of dishes: meat-based, dairy, flour-based, vegetable, etc. The methods of cooking and eating are also diverse and vary from region to region. In the past, the dishes also differentiated depending on the geographical and natural conditions as well as the social standing of people.
