The Lithuanians are a Baltic people the majority of which lives in Lithuania.
Language
They speak the Lithuanian language (the Baltic branch of the Indo-European family). The main dialects are Žemaitian and Aukštaitian, which became the basis for the standard Lithuanian language. Almost all the Lithuanians can speak Russian.
Ethnic groups
Two main ethnic groups of Lithuanians can be distinguished – the Aukštaite (Aukštaitians) and the Žemaite (Žemaitians, outdated zhmud).
Dispersion
The majority of the Lithuanians live in the Kaliningrad region, in Moscow and Saint Petersburg.
