Italians are a people of the Romance language
group, the majority of the population of Italy.
Language
They speak the Italian language which belongs
to the Romance language group of the Indo-European family. It has dialects that
differ from each other a lot. The largest are: Tuscany (the standard Italian is
based on it), Neapolitan (many world-famous Italian songs are sung in it),
Venetian, Sicilian, Ligurian.
Traditional occupations
Farming, cattle breeding,
gardening and grape growing.
Clothes
The national costume of the
Italians is notable by its vividness and diversity. Men wore trousers a little
lower than the knee, a white shirt, a jacket or a vest, women wore a long
gathered or pleated skirt, a shirt, often embroidered, with wide sleeves, and a
so-called bodice, that is, a short jacket, a colored apron, a scarf and a
headscarf. Decorations were obligatory. These are the main traits of the
national costume, though each locality had its own versions. Currently modern
dress is worn everywhere.
Food
They mostly use pasta, rice, cheese, seafood. Pasta
has about 30 versions. There are also many types of cheese: ricotta,
mozzarella, pecorino, etc. Rice dishes can be made with different seasonings
and are called risotto. For the dessert, fruit is popular.
