The Latgalians are an ethnic group which is a
part of the Latvians, the native population of Latgalia, a historic and
cultural region in the eastern part of Latvia.
Language
They speak the Latgalian language which does
not have an official status and is considered to be the Upper Latvian dialect
of the Latvian language. The majority of religious Latgalians are Catholics.
Dispersion
The largest number of Latgalians lives in the
Krasnoyarsk territory, in the Novosibirsk region, in the Tomsk region and in
the Kemerovo region.
