The Tindi (Tindal, Ideri, Idarii, Idaral) are an
ethnic group of the Avars.
Language
The Tindi language belongs to
the Andi subgroup of the Avar-Ando-Tsezic group of the Nakh-Dagestan language
family. It is closest to the Bagval and Chamala languages. The Tindi and Bagval
languages have particularly much in common, and in what relates to the
vocabulary, there is a lot in common between the Angida dialect of the Tindi
language and the Chamala language. The Tindi also speak Russian, Avar and
Chechen languages.
Dispersion
They live in the Western
Dagestan (the villages Tindi, Aknada, Angida, Tissi, Echeda, Gunduchi, Ashcha,
Sanukh, Mukharkh, Tenla, Gadaychi, Gvinachi, Khalikh, Bekhvatluchi,
Tissi-Akhitli and Shuguri of the Tsumada district), also in the Aknada and
Angida villages of the Kizilyurt district, partially in the Pyatiletka village
of the Khasavyurt district. There are also many Tindi migrants in other
villages of the Khasavyurt, Kizilyurt, Babayurt and Kizlyar districts of
Dagestan.
