Svans
Svans are a people of the Svan group of the Kartvelian language family.
Language
They speak the Svan language, which belongs to the Northern language group of the Kartvelian language family, which is separate from the Georgian language. Besides their native language, they speak Georgian.
Traditional occupations
The Svans liked to create artistic objects from copper, bronze and gold. The well-known Svan smiths, stonemasons and wood carvers made kitchenware and various home utensils from silver, copper, clay and wood, as well as the Svan hats – the national Svan headgear. Beekeeping was a traditional occupation of the Svans. However, the most respected and revered occupations for them are hunting and mountaineering.
