Bagvalal people (self-designations Bagvalal
(“poor people eating raw meat”), Bagvalin (“strongmen”), Bagulal, Gayitlyalo)
are an ethnic group of Avars which is a part of the Andi peoples.
Language
They speak the Bagvalal language which has Khushtada, Tlondoda and Tlibisho dialects.The Avar, Russian
and Chechen languages are also widespread.
Dispersion
The Bagvalals settled on the northern slope of the Bogos range, on the right bank of the Andi Koysu
river. The places of their compact settlement are the neighboring villages
Khushtada, Tlondoda, Kvanada, Ghimerso (Tsumada district), Tlibisho, Tlissi
(Akhvakh district). Currently the Bagvalal settlers also have a compact
settlement in the Chalo village (Kizilyurt district).
