Nizhny Novgorod
Nizhny Novgorod is the administrative center of the Volga Federal District and the Nizhny Novgorod Region. Nizhny Novgorod (until 1990 - Gorky) was one of the most important multifunctional military-industrial centers of the USSR during the Great Patriotic War. 43% of submarines, every third aircraft and every third tank were delivered to the front from Gorky. Legendary tanks T-34 and T-60 were assembled at the “Krasnoye Sormovo” and GAZ factories. The city also produced the most massive fighter of that war, the LA-5.
