Samara
Samara is the administrative center of the Samara region. During the Great Patriotic War, about 20 large industrial enterprises operated in Samara (until 1991 - Kuibyshev). The mechanical plant produced 20,000 armored hulls for the Il-2 and 4,000 armored hulls for the Il-10. In addition, the factories produced about 16,000 different elements of body armor for aircrafts. During the war, more than 36,000 combat aircrafts, every fifth aerial bomb, every third artillery shell were manufactured in Kuibyshev. The river workers also did a lot for the Victory: only during the navigation of 1942, the river workers of the Middle Volga river shipping company delivered 340 vehicles with cargo to the Stalingrad Front. For labor exploits, many city enterprises were awarded state awards; they were repeatedly presented with the challenge Red Banners of the State Defense Committee.
