Yaroslavl is the administrative center of the Yaroslavl region. By the fall of 1941, the Yaroslavl Automobile Plant sent to the front more than half of its products, among which were artillery tractors, mines, and grenades. At the plant, in the shortest possible time, the production of Shpagin submachine guns (PPSh) was established, in the production of which more than 15 enterprises of the city participated. Several Yaroslavl factories produced artillery shells and incendiary bombs, and the Yaroslavl shipyard produced combat boats for the Navy. Also, the city was the largest center of locomotive building. Enterprises of the chemical, oil and rubber industries were of the most important defense importance, light industry enterprises provided the army with uniforms. From the first days of the war, hospitals began to open in Yaroslavl, under which most of the hospitals and school buildings were given. During the war years, Yaroslavl was awarded 17 challenge Red Banners, 455 workers of Yaroslavl enterprises were awarded orders and medals for selfless labor.
