Reconstruction of the Sakhalin section of the Far Eastern Railway
Reconstruction of the Sakhalin section of the Far Eastern Railway. From 2003 to 2019, the track of the Sakhalin road was re-sewn from the width of 1067 mm (it was built when Sakhalin belonged to Japan) to the width of 1520 mm adopted in Russia. At the same time, a complete reconstruction of the track facilities was carried out, including the construction of new bridges and drainage structures, straightening the track, expanding and strengthening the tunnels. Almost the entire 1520 mm track was re-sewn by the fall of 2020.
