Kemerovo
Kemerovo is the administrative center of the Kemerovo region - Kuzbass. During the Great Patriotic War, the equipment of 38 evacuated factories was placed in the city, on their basis 11 new factories arose, five of them were defense ones. Workers cast hulls for mines, made charges for howitzers, cartridges for rifles. Every third shell was filled with Kemerovo gunpowder, including the famous “Katyushas”. Three largest collectives - coke-chemical plant, nitrogen fertilizer plant and construction trust No. 96 - were awarded the Orders of Lenin. Over 6 thousand citizens of Kemerovo were awarded military orders and medals.
