Okha is the city located in the north of the Sakhalin Island. Okha is the only district center of the Sakhalin Region awarded with the state award - the Order of the Badge of Honor. The work of the “Sakhalinneft” Trust collective during the Great Patriotic War can be called the labor feat. During the period 1941 – 1945, three million tons of oil were produced. In 1942, the Okha – Sofiysk-on-Amur oil pipeline was built and put into operation, through which oil went to the mainland. In 1944, “Sakhalinneft” Trust increased production by 14%. In addition, tanks were produced at the personal expense of the Okha citizens. Dozens of brigades exceeded the planned tasks by 100 - 200%, reduced the cost of produced oil. New oil wells were discovered.
