Development of Russia transport infrastructure in the XXI century
The transport system of Russia in XXIth century was one of the longest in the world. At the present time, Russia has all modern types of transport, the location and structure of its transport communications correspond to the internal and external transport and economic relations of the country, and the transport infrastructure occupies one of the priority places in the development of the economy, the ongoing modernization of the transport industry continues at a rapid pace, in which the significant place is occupied by the largest infrastructure projects.
After the crisis of the 1990s transport system of Russia changed beyond recognition in the first two decades of the XXI century: the deep modernization of the infrastructure was carried out, which made it possible to meet the growing demand for passenger and freight transport, create the reserve for further development and modernization. In the XXI century the major infrastructure projects were implemented in Russia, including the construction of the Crimean and Russian bridges, the commissioning of new oil and gas pipelines (“Nord Stream”, “Power of Siberia”), the construction of new ports (Ust-Luga) and large international airports, including Platov airport in Rostov-on-Don and Gagarin airport in Saratov. At the same time, in almost two decades - from 2000 to 2019 - the length of the public roads increased from 752 to 1198 thousand km (1.6 times), the length of metro tracks increased 1.5 times from 405 to 602 km, and the railway freight turnover of railway transport increased from 1373 to 2602 t-km.
