Located in the Komi Republic and the Nenets Autonomous District. The area of the province is 600 thousand km2 and comprises the Izhma-Pechorskaya, Pechora-Kolva, Horeyver-Moreyu, North-Pre-Urals oil and gas basins and the Ukhta-Izhma oil and gas region. The most significant fields are Yaregskoye, Verkhneomyrinskoye, Pashninskoye, Layavozhskoye, Usinskoye, Vuktylskoye, Intinskoye, Yuzhno-Shapkinskoye, Kharyaginskoye, Varandeyskoye, Saremboyskoye. Artisanal mining and processing of Ukhta oil began in 1745. Exploratory drilling has been practiced since 1890. The first light oil field (Chibuyskoye) was discovered in 1930, that of heavy oil (Yaregskoye), in 1932. By 1987, in the Timan-Pechora oil and gas province, over 75 oil and gas fields (more than 230 deposits) had been identified. At present, there are over 180 fields on the territory of this oil and gas province, of which 136 are oil fields, 4 gas condensate fields, 2 oil and gas fields, 13 oil and gas condensate fields, 12 gas condensate fields and 16 gas fields.
