Main mineral deposits on the territory of the Russian Federation
Okhotsk oil and gas province
Located within the Kamchatka Territory, the Sakhalin Region and the Khabarovsk Territory. The area is 1.2 million km2. The first gas field (Okhinskoye) was discovered in Northern Sakhalin in 1923, in Kamchatka in 1980; development in Northern Sakhalin started in 1930. The main production center is in the town of Okha. By 1985, 47 oil and gas-condensate fields had been found (mostly producing oil & gas condensate). The most well-known of them are Okhinskoye, Shkhunnoye, Odoptinskoye, Chayvinskoye and Katanglinskoye.
