Main mineral deposits on the territory of the Russian Federation

Lena Coal Basin

Located on the territory of the Republic of Yakutia (Sakha), partly in the Krasnoyarsk Territory. Area: 600 thousand km². The pool contains 10 % of the world’s estimated coal resources and 25 % of Russia's coal resources. Due to unfavorable geographic and economic location, it has been poorly explored and under-developed. The first information about the presence of coal in the basin dates back to the 19^th century, with exploration and survey of coal deposits held periodically since 1927, development – since 1930.
