On March 1, 1881 members of "Narodnaya Volya" committed an attempt on the Emperor Alexander II the Liberator, as a result of which Alexander II perished. The attack was carried out in St. Petersburg on the embankment of the Catherine Canal with the help of self-made missile projectiles. The terrorists were seized and executed.
