Turkic people, the majority of the population of the modern Kyrgyzstan. There are also many Kirghiz communities in China, Kazakhstan, Russia and Turkey, as well as in the countries of Central Asia.
Language
The Kirghiz language belongs to the Turkic group of languages.
Dwellings
The main type of dwelling for the Kirghiz in the past was the yurt (uy, ak uy).
Food
The economic activity of the Kirghiz population left its stamp on their diet. The dairy products still prevail, with sour milk diluted with water, melted butter and cream as well as several types of cheese being the most popular. In some regions, kumis is prepared. Out of the baked goods, unleavened scones take the first place. The Kirghiz also make cookies from bits of dough and layered scones. They make soup from barley flour, adding sour milk or dry cheese, soup with noodles, sweet milk rice porridge with butter, etc. Out of meat dishes, the most popular is cooked mutton, which in many places is eaten broken into crumbles, adding onions or mixing it with fat and noodles. They also make a kind of a sausage stuffed with bits of meat and rice. Now they often make pilaf and pelmeni dumplings. Salted tea is widely used.
Occupations
The main occupation of the majority of the Kirghiz is still cattle breeding.
