The Rostov Regionis is a constituent entity of the Russian Federation making part the Southern
Federal District. It is located in the south of European Russia. It is bordered on its western
side by the Taganrog Bay of the Sea of Azov.Its administrative center is the city of Rostov-on-Don founded in 1749. The
region’s industry is very highly diversified, and the agriculture is
well-developed. The largest industries in the Rostov Region are machine
building and metalworking, food industry, electric power industry, fuel
industry. The region’s agriculture specializes in the cultivation of cereal
crops. The Rostov Region is an important transport hub. It is crossed by the
M-4 highway (“Don”), the waterway connecting the central part of Russia with
the Black and Mediterranean seas, and air corridor connecting St. Petersburg
and Moscow with the North Caucasus.
