The Ulyanovsk Region is a constituent entity of the Russian Federation making part of the Volga Federal District. It is located in the southeast of European Russia, in the central part of the Middle Volga Region. Its administrative center is Ulyanovsk, founded in 1648 as Simbirsk. The region
has deposits of oil, peat and raw materials needed to produce construction materials. The largest industries in the Ulyanovsk Region are machine building, electric power
industry, food industry and light industry. Animal husbandry specializes in cattle farming involving raising livestock for meat and dairy products, agriculture
– in the cultivation of cereal and industrial crops.
