The Primorye Territory is a constituent entity of the Russian Federation
making part of the Far Eastern Federal District. It is located in the southeast
of Russia. Its administrative center is Vladivostok, founded in 1860. The territory
has deposits of bituminous coal, lignite, polymetallic ores, gold, tin, and graphite. The
largest industries in the Primorye Territory are food industry, electric power
industry, machine building, timber and woodworking industries. Agriculture involves
production of wheat, buckwheat and vegetables. It is one of Russia’s leading fish
and seafood producing regions. The Primorye Territory is home to several nature
reserves including Kedrovaya Pad Nature Reserve, Lazovsky Nature Reserve, Sikhote-Alin
Biosphere Reserve, Ussuri Nature Reserve and Khanka Nature Reserve. The Primorye
Territory is crossed by the Trans-Siberian Railway. The territory’s large ports
are Vladivostok, Nakhodka and Vostochny.
