The Khabarovsk Territory is a constituent entity of the Russian Federation making part of the Far
Eastern Federal District. It is located in the center of the Russian Far East. Its
administrative center is Khabarovsk, founded in 1858. The Khabarovsk Territory has
enormous land, water, forest and mineral resources. The region is one of the
leaders in Russia in respect of timer resources, rare fish and fur animal
species, ferrous and rare metals deposits. It also has one of the country’s largest
tin and gold deposits. There are also unique plants growing in the region, such
as the rare Far-Eastern medical plants including ginseng, eleuterococcus and
magnolia-vine, as well as pine nut, wild berries and fern. The largest
industries in the Khabarovsk Territory are machine building and metalworking, electric
power industry, timber and woodworking industries, food industry, non-ferrous
metallurgy, fuel industry. Sea navigation is also active in the region. The Khabarovsk Territory is home to some big nature
reserves, including Bolshekhekhtsirsky Nature Reserve, Botcha Nature Reserve, Bureya Nature Reserve, Dzhugdzursky Nature Reserve and Komsomolsk
Nature Reserve.
