The Amur Region is a constituent entity of the Russian Federation making part of the Far Eastern Federal
District. It is located in the southeast of the Asian Russia, in the south of
the Russian Far East. Its administrative center is Blagoveshchensk, founded in
1856. Rich in natural resources, the region has deposits of gold, silver, titanium, molybdenum, tungsten, copper, tin, bituminous coal, lignite, graphite, talc, quartz sands and limestone. The region is richly endowed in terms of forests (64% of the region’s territory is covered with
forests) and hydropower resources. The largest industries in the Amur Region are
electric power industry, non-ferrous metallurgy, timber and woodworking
industries, fuel industry, machine building, food industry. The Amur Region is the
leading agricultural region in the Far Eastern economic region. The Amur Region
is crossed by the Trans-Siberian Railway and the Baikal-Amur Mainline. There is
navigation on the rivers Amur, Zeya and Bureya. The Amur Region is home to two
large nature reserves: Zeya Nature Reserve and Khingan Nature Reserve.
