The Magadan Region is a constituent entity of the Russian Federation making part of the Far Eastern Federal District. It is
located in the most northeasterly region of Russia. Its administrative center
is Magadan, founded in 1930. The region is rich in reserves of precious metals,
coal, tin, tungsten and copper. The largest industries in the Magadan Region are
non-ferrous metallurgy, electric power industry, food industry. Owing to the
severe climate, agriculture is Magadan Region's least developed economic sector.
Most food products are supplied from outside. Deer farming and fur farming are
developed in the region. The Magadan region is home to Magadan Nature Reserve,
founded in 1982.
