The machine-building complex is an essential constituent of heavy equipment industry, and machine engineering and metalworking are the leading branches thereof.
In 2014 the output of machine-building enterprises in the Russian Federation was more than 5.74 trillion rubles. This is one of the best indicators in the machine-building industry. Machine engineering accounts for about 20% of the output of all Russian manufacturing industry.
Production of vehicles accounts for the major share of the output in 2014 – a little less than 51% that is 2,925 billion RUR in money terms. The share of electric equipment, electronic and optical equipment production was 28% or 1,611 billion RUR and the share of machinery and equipment production was 21% or 1,202 billion RUR.
Metallurgical industry is also doing quite well. At present our country ranks the fourth in the world by steel production (the Russian companies make about 67.9 mln. tons per year) and the third in the world by export of steel products (namely 27.6 mln. tons per year). It is also included into the top ten countries ensuring import of steel goods (that is more than five million tons per year).
The government pursues active policy in implementation of large-scale infrastructural projects.
